Ascend Capsule
Ascend Capsule
Ascend explores two themes – passage and threshold – and the relationship between them. Although the works are technically careful and the forms resolved, they have a paradoxically poetic resonance. Offering multiple viewpoints, the works include stairs, voids, gateways, bridges, corridors and paths of various scale. The intimacy of the artworks is an invitation to look closely, cross thresholds and to be curious about the invisible and unknowable. They suggest ever changing movement toward a source or beginning.
The capsule collection of Ascend works was presented remotely to and concurrently with the primary Ascend exhibition. Underpinned by the same primary themes, the capsule collection works were often comprised of two parts – a small object sitting on a larger, flat ceramic surface shaped with angles, stairs or ramps. The capsule collection was exhibited within a large, vintage glass cabinet.
